Swanky Swinging Jewelry Organizer

jewelryorganizerFind Jewelry Organizers that match your style and Jewelry Storage needs!

I found the cutest new Jewelry Organizer, the Swing Away Jewelry Armoire, and I just had to share!  I love the design of this jewelry organizer.  It reminds me of many smaller versions of this that I have seen, usually wooden jewelry boxes or acrylic models, where it’s a tall cylinder, and each level swings out to the side to open, revealing jewelry storage and dividers inside. This is basically the same concept as those, just a lot bigger, which means it can hold a lot more (big is good, right?)

My thoughts on jewelry armoires are this:  If you have a lot of jewelry, a jewelry armoire is an investment.  It may seem like an expensive purchase, like buying a new couch or something, but it’s not like you will ever need to buy another one.  And, even if you are just getting started on a jewelry collection early in life, you are sure to fill a jewelry armoire in the years to come.  Another thing I like about them is that they are almost like a piece of furniture in themselves, a great accent piece, if you will.  Place a jewelry armoire in your bedroom, next to a walk in closet, or near the vanity (if you are lucky enough to have one).

This jewelry organizer has a very cool design – the white painted wood and the round body almost have a retro feel to them, but work just as well in modern styled homes, as well as country chic.  This armoire has a storage space for everything, and a mirror on the upper portion for applying makeup and trying out your favorite gems.  The felt lined interior is a great, affordable way to keep jewelry safe and clean, free of tarnish, scratches and the dividers keep your longer pieces tangle free!

Jewelry Boxes and Organizers for Everyone!

Different Jewelry Boxes for Different Types – and trust me, there’s something for everyone!

When choosing a jewelry box or jewelry organizer, the wealth of choices can be welcomed, but also a tad overwhelming!  How to choose depends on what you need, where you are going to put it, what your style is, how much jewelry you have, and on and on.  Check out my tips and reviews of different types of jewelry organizers below to find out which one will work best for you (or your significant other, if you are gift shopping).  Wooden Jewelry Boxes – These are the more traditional form of jewelry organizing, been around for centuries and centuries, keeping jewelry safe, neat and tidy.  Choose a hardwood box for long term jewelry storage.  A wooden jewelry box can come in any shape or form, from traditional square and rectangular models to round and half moons.  A box that incorporates glass doors or see through tops gives the most visual appeal.  A box with a mirror is nice, both storing your gems and helping you put them on!  And, for girls from 5 to 85, a musical jewelry box simply can’t be beat.  Choose a theme song that represents your life, or simply puts a smile on your face!  Fabric and Leather Jewelry Boxes – These are a great alternative to wood, perfect for the bathroom counter or dresser top for your most frequently used jewelry!  And the possibilities are endless with these, including pinks, blacks, greens and more.  Choose from large chocolate brown leather boxes and small open boxes.   Travel Jewelry Organizers – on the go, keep your most precious gems safe from loss and tangles with a great travel jewelry organizers.  These are available in every size and material, from small leather wallet size jewelry cases to full size organizers for most of your collection!

Ooh la la! How About an Ornate Organizer?

Hi everybody! My name is Molly, from Wine Racks Blog and Spice Racks Blog. Michaela asked me to share some of my favorite jewelry organizers - and I’m happy to oblige.

See this?

This is one of Marie Antoinette’s jewelry boxes. The girl may not have had the best sense for politics, but you cannot deny her sense of style. I know, there’s something to be said for subdued taste - but you know what? Sometimes you’ve just got to go big!

armoireNow, I don’t know about you - but I’m not lucky enough to live in a French chateau. But that doesn’t stop me from mentally decorating my imaginary castle. Here’s a jewelry cabinet that any queen would lose her head over - the Antique Parchment Armoire. This jewelry organizer is hand painted, has a flip top with a mirror, and enough storage space for the crown jewels.

chestBut of course, if you’re really lacking room but still want a bit of luxury - there’s a jewelry organizer for you. How about this Floral Jewelry Storage Case? This tres charmant case is hand painted and features designs of flowers and birds. What I love about this case is that it has a lift-up tray - so you can stash secret treasures (love letters?) away from prying eyes.

I found these jewelry organizers at StacksAndStacks. Have you found any great organizers lately? Let us know!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

A Gift Guide for Jewelry Storage for Everyone on your List!

Ahh, it’s that wonderful time of year again.  No, not Christmas, Valentine’s Day – a day celebrating love of all types, from Moms and Dads to their kids, Grandparents to their Grandchildren, and couples of all ages to each other!  Jewelry storage comes in many different forms, and, just as jewelry itself can be, a jewelry box is a beautiful gift to give on Valentine’s Day.

Here is a list of some people you may be wanting to shower with gifts, and, for each, a jewelry storage option designed just for them!

  • Wives and Girlfriends:  A Jewelry Box is an obvious choice.  Choose one in made of hardwood with glass or mirror accents.  If she likes very elegant home décor, dark and light cherry woods are the way to go.  If she has more modern taste, a white painted, black or espresso jewelry box will bring a smile to her face.  If she already has a lot of jewelry, here is a cute idea:  Purchase an inexpensive jewelry organizer, like a jewelry drawer divider tray and wrap it up, but first put her real present (a pair of earrings, or, maybe, a ring?) in it.  She will be thrilled by both of these thoughtful presents.
  • Dads and Boyfriends:  Yes, some of them have jewelry too.  If not, a Men’s Valet is a nice V Day present – Stacks & Stacks has table top valets and beautiful wooden watch cases.  He will feel loved, important, and it will give him a nice place to set his wallet, keys and cell phone at night (as opposed to the floor) -  a gift to everyone!
  • Girls and Young Women:  Little girls love musical jewelry boxes, with or without the spinning ballerina!  For older girls, faux leather boxes in cool blues, pinks and browns are a big hit, and can hold anything from jewelry to love notes on their dresser top.

Space Age Jewelry Cleaners

soniccleaner
Ionic and Sonic Jewelry Cleaners for Professional Shine!

Is your jewelry looking tired? The easiest, quickest way to clean it is with a Jewelry Bath! Ionic and Sonic Jewelry Cleaners are used by professionals, but you can have them at home for a fraction of the price.

First, a WARNING: NEVER clean Pearls, Opals, opaque stones (like turquoise) or other Delicate Jewelry in a sonic or ionic jewelry cleaner, ALWAYS read the instructions to see what jewelry can be used in your cleaner. Pearls can actually dissolve in these liquid cleaners, so make sure to read the instructions for your machine and also do a test spot on metals before hand to make sure you won’t damage your fine jewelry.

How do they work?

  1. Ionic jewelry cleaners work by using a positive charge to attract to dirt and tarnish on your jewelry. Your jewelry is dropped into a solution which has chemicals that make the water more conductive. These cleaners usually clean metals in under a minute.
  2. Sonic or Ultrasonic jewelry cleaners work by using ultrasonic waves. These powerful waves blast dirt and tarnish off of the jewelry, a favorite of professionals.

Both types are very easy to use. They usually require batteries, and a solution. Usually the solution is included. You simply fill the machine with solution and (sometimes) water, then put your jewelry into a basket or on a clip, close the machine and turn it on. In no time at all, you will have beautiful, shiny jewelry just like it’s new!

I really like this small sonic jewelry bath, it looks nice because of the clear container, and it is small enough that you can put it right on your bathroom counter. It’s also compact enough that you can put it in a jewelry organizer or box. It is also very inexpensive, available at StacksAndStacks.com.

Men’s Valets

Jewelry Organizers for Men who Wear Jewelry (or Not!)

I know, I know…  Doesn’t seem important.  But, even if your man doesn’t have jewelry, he probably has a watch, right?  Okay, if not a watch, certainly he has a wallet.  Where does he put his wallet at night?

He probably doesn’t need a jewelry organizer the size of yours, but wouldn’t it be nice for him (and you) if he had some place to lay his accessories at the end of a long, hard day?  The bonus for you is that he won’t be junking up your night stands, bathroom counters, etc.  A men’s valet comes in a couple of forms, and is a great investment.

The first type of valet is the freestanding type that holds clothes.  These are usually about three feet tall, so they are almost a furniture piece of their own in the bedroom.  They come in many different styles and shades of wood, from deep cherry to more modern espresso.  A man can hang the next day’s clothes (think suits and business attire), keeping them wrinkle-free over night and ready to go in the a.m.  Other features on some of these valets include mirrors, pants presses and drawers.  If his job doesn’t require formal business attire, you can get away with a men’s valet that sits right on the dresser.

These are very elegant boxes, perfect for wallets, keys, cell phones and any jewelry that he has.  I really like this valet tray, it is made of real leather, a chic alternative to wood, and has compartments for everything, including two hidden suede-lined sections for more valuable items.  It is compact, so you won’t be bothered by its presence on your dresser.  Men’s Valets make great birthday or (my favorite) Valentine’s gifts.

Surprise your husband with a thoughtful gift this year, a little place he can call his own on your dresser!

Hanging Necklace Organizer

My #1 Pick for Necklaces:  The Max Acrylic Jewelry Organizer - Hanging Necklaces Keeps them Safe and Easy to Find.  Necklaces, bracelets and watches do much better hanging than they do sitting in a jewelry box or a drawer.

In a jewelry box, “long” jewelry, such as necklaces and bracelets get tangled very easily.  This can make it hard to find what piece you are looking for.  It can also damage or even lead to unwanted breakage of delicate chains and beads.  So, necklaces especially, but also bracelets, should really be on a hanger to avoid messy knots and tangles, and, eventually, breakage and loss of jewelry.  There are many different types of necklace organizers, from drawer trays to dresser top upright boxes.

Here is one of the best ones that I’ve seen, available at Stacks & Stacks.  The Max Acrylic Jewelry Hanger:  This is a really great necklace organizer because it mounts to the wall, so you don’t have to worry about taking up valuable space on your dresser.  It is definitely space-efficient, which I love!  You can keep it in the closet, behind the door, or on the bathroom wall.  It is very secure – your necklaces and bracelets won’t slip off as long as you keep them between the two wall hooks.

I also really like the fact that this jewelry organizer is made of acrylic plastic.  Acrylic is a favorite material for making jewelry boxes and organizers because it is crystal clear and also it doesn’t scratch easily because it is very rigid (but also more breakable than soft plastics).  It does a great job of showing off your jewelry and it is inconspicuous enough that it doesn’t detract from your beautiful gems.  This is especially true when hanging on the wall.  If you have just spent days repainting your home in new, vibrant colors, this acrylic necklace hanger will still let you see your hard work shine through.  It mounts easily with just 4 screws.

Jewelry-Wearing Made Easy (for Busy/Lazy People)

My life is very busy, so it’s hard for me to remember to wear my jewelry.  I have three kids that I watch during the day and I also work.  So, my daily personal priorities include showering and brushing my teeth – everything else is just considered “extras” - icing on the cake, if you will.  This includes jewelry-wearing, and that, even is very low on the extras list.

I think I’ve mentioned before that I have jewelry organizers (and jewelry in general) all over my house.  Upstairs, I have my first jewelry box with some of my nicer pieces.  In the back of the bedroom closet is the expensive stuff.

But, you never can tell where I’m going to be doing my primping in the morning.  Sometimes it is upstairs where I shower, but more often than not, it is downstairs.  That is how I have come to neglect this finer point of appearance.  Once I am downstairs, brushing my teeth in the bathroom (yes, I also have toothbrushes all over my house too) it is not likely (to put it mildly) that I’m going to go back upstairs to get jewelry to finish my look, especially with three toddlers running around.

So, I have willingly adapted to the life of a mother, and created a new system to make sure I leave the house looking respectable at least half the time.  I now keep a small selection of everyday jewelry in the downstairs bathroom.  That way I can either put it in on while brushing my teeth and hair or I can even just throw it in my purse or pocket and put it on when I get in the car.

Here are some tips if you are going to try this method:

1.  Rotate the jewelry selection once a month

2.  Don’t expect a lot of organization – I literally use an old gift box and throw everything in it (see image) - a basket would also work.

3.  Keep out of the reach of children (learned this one the hard way)
